The Northern Eastern part of Nigeria is the major part of
the country expected to face the prediction of over 90000 death of children by
the UNICEF, as a result of malnutrition as over 1.6million people have lost
their homes and have been forced to flee to refugee camps in other parts of the
country and other neighbouring countries due to the Boko Haram Insurgence in
the Northern part of the country.
Despite the warning made by the UNICEF to the government of
the Country, we have heard of nothing so far from the government neither is
there any moved been made instead the case is been worsen daily by the
mysterious policy of President Mohammed Buhari. Prices of commodities increase
on a daily base in the country, restriction of some certain trades and
importation of some certain goods are banned. How are parents who have lost
their homes and jobs expected to fend and provide for their children? If 90000
children die of only starvation, other illness and causes of death excluded,
then what is left for the future of this great country? Should we say our so
called leaders are with no heart or they are just been so blinded by that which
doesn’t belong to their fore fathers? Every child of this Nation have a right
to be ultimately cared for, a right to free medication, free education, a right
to utmost security, a right to speak, a right to movement and a right to be
listened to. For in them lays the answer to the problems of Nigeria.
According to the independent interview with Unicef’s chief
of communication in the west Africa. Doune Porter, told The Independent that
despite attempts to raise global awareness of the crisis in November, the
number of children at risk of starving to death has increased further.
Forecasting a "tragedy" if the rest of the world
continues to turn its back, she said: “Three months ago we estimated that over
the year in the three states most effected by conflict – Borno Yobe and Adamawa
— 400,000 would suffer from Severe Acute
Malnutrition. This projection has now increased to 450,000.
“We continue to be hampered by a lack of funds and by access
security in the region. There are a lot of children who we can’t reach because
of insecurity and attacks in certain areas.
“If the situation continues where we can’t reach people or
we do not have enough funding, we estimate that one in five of these children —
90,000 of them — are expected to die in the coming year.”
Feed a child, speak for a child, together lets make a move for our young ones , they need us now more than ever.
